Brow Tutorial

Good evening!

I was sitting here this evening, pondering what my next tutorial would be and thought that I would do something that a lot of others find quite challenging....

'What's that?' I hear you ask.

The answer.....

BROWS!!!!

Yup....

When I first began grooming my brows, back when I was a teenager, I would use a razor... and then I would pluck them within an inch of their life!

See? The tiniest little line imaginable....

Quite obviously, a long time has passed, I went through the awful stage of trying to grow them back, and even now, I have sparse patches because of my over-plucking! (Grrrr!!!)

So, now I want to help you to pluck your brows in the correct shape and help to fill them in.

I promise, if you don't already do it, this will change your life!!

It's true!

So let's begin!

Firstly, find a brow product that you are comfortable using. If you're looking for a natural look, I would suggest using a powder.
If you are looking for something a little more defined, then use a brow pencil or gel.

I am using (as always) the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in the colour Dark Brown.

The Holy Grail...
Next, you will need to find you brow shape. If you find a long thin brush/pencil, this will do the job nicely.

Start by holding the brush on the edge of your nostril, and hold it upwards so that it is inline with the corner of your eye.
Where the brush meets your brow, is the starting point of your brow. Anything you have before this point needs to be plucked (however, if you are someone with a wide nose, you can keep some of the hairs, as the if your brows are closer together, it will give the illusion that your nose is thinner).

Starting Point

Keeping your brush on your nose, angle it so that it passes through the centre on your eye(your pupil).
Where the brush meets your brow is where your arch is going to be. Pluck any hairs under this (NEVER pluck above) but be careful as to no over-pluck, you just want to get a nice smooth arch.

Arch
Lastly, keeping the brush on your nose, angle it so that it meets the outer corner of your eye.

This will be the end of your brow. Again, pluck any hairs you have under so that your arch and end meet nicely.

This is where the brow ends

Now to start filling them in.
I always start with the end of the brow. The reason for this is that typically, when you load product onto your brush, wherever you use the product first is going to darker/denser than when you end.
Naturally, the tail end of your brow is darker, so that's why I start there.
1)  To create the tail, I start at underneath the brow, and draw line from the top of my arch to where I want my brow to end.

2) Above the brow, draw a line from the top of the arch, and meet the end of the line you have just made.

3) Now make line from the lowest point at the start of the arch, and bring it up to meet your other line.

4) Now fill in the tail end of your brow.If you need to load more product onto the brush, this is the best time to it and you will need sparse amount throughout the rest of the tutorial.

5) Begin to fill in the rest of the brow, being careful not to take the brow up too far. It best to follow your natural shape. I have tiny little hair about my brow that I use as my guide for the shape.

6) Time for the scary part, the part that is hardest to make it look natural. But don't worry, if you have followed this tutorial so far, you should have a small amount of product on the brush, so this make things much easier!

Your now going to draw the line under the start of the brow to get the defined edge. You don't want too much product as you don't want your brows to look drawn on (even though they are!!)

7) Once this done, start to use small brush strokes upwards from this line to mimic brow hairs. Continue doing this until you get the shape you desire. Don't worry too much if you go to far as we will clean up with concealer later.

It's a good idea to go in with a spooly brush (or a clean mascara wand) and run through the brows to make sure there are no harsh lines and everything blends together nicely.

8) In order to clean up any mistakes and define the brows even more, we are going to go in with a small brush and some concealer. Any kind is fine, although it is good idea to use a lighter concealer than your skintone as this will highlight to brow area.

9) Finally, when your concealer is blended in, you need to use a product to keep your brows in place.
I used Maybelline Brow Drama in Dark Brown for this purpose.

And Voila!!! That's your brows done. With a little practice, you will be doing this is no time at all.
Believe me, once you get it right, you'll never be able to not fill in your brows again!

As always, I would love to hear your comments on this.
